CUIP Prospective Mentors

Applications for the 2024-2025 academic year are now closed. We will open applications for the 2025-2026 academic year in October 2024.

Read more about the CUIP Host Principles here to learn how our committee makes decisions about what positions are selected each academic year. We are limited to approving 55 positions each year.

Please email cuip@ucsc.edu with any questions about CUIP or to express interest in hosting an intern for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Timeline of CUIP Process:

  • OctoberApplications to host an intern open
  • November: Applications close
  • December: CUIP committee makes approvals or recommendations 
  • January: CUIP positions posted on Handshake
  • January - February: Applications accepted
  • February - March: Host sites conduct interviews
    • Applicant names will be confirmed for good academic and conduct standing (placements will not be confirmed until standing is complete)
  • Late March: Rankings are due for Students and Hosts (ranking forms will be emailed directly)
  • Early April: Decisions and offers made (CUIP places students in internships based on rankings. Host sites do not directly hire students)
  • May: CUIP Orientation
  • Fall 2024: Internships begin 

Cost:
All CUIP positions are 300 hours. The cost for host sites is $3,000 per intern. 


* This cost is based on half of the $5,500 of the intern's current yearly registration fees paid by the program plus a $250 program participation administrative fee paid by the unit. (Some departments choose to pay 100% of student scholarships in order to participate because Chancellor's matching funds are limited)
